INDIANAPOLIS - Manchester's David Bazzoni took fourth place in the pole vault at Friday's track and field state finals at IUPUI's Carroll Stadium with a jump of 15 feet, 9 inches. Bazzoni's fourth-place finish was best among several local competitors.
Lawrence North won the team title with a score of 61 points, easily running away from second-place North Central's 39. Fort Wayne Northrop (32), Gary West (26) and Richmond (25) rounded out the top five.
Among other local competitors, Triton's Matt Anders took fifth in the 400 with a time of 48.99 seconds. Warsaw junior Adam Sisson took 15th in the event with a time of 50.58 seconds.
Triton's Nathan Gephart competed in two events, the 1600 and 3200. Gephart's time of 4:27.23 in the 1600 was good enough for 20th, while his time time in the two-mile event was not available at press time. Wawasee senior Rob Chalfant took eighth in the one-mile run with a time of 4:20.20
Chalfant's teammate, freshman Anthony Argentino, took 12th in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.09 seconds. Warsaw junior Grady Randall, who in the regional set a school record, took 22nd in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.12 seconds. He took fourth in the regional with a time of 39.9 seconds.
Triton senior Jim Read competed in the high jump, but official results show Read as having no height.
Warsaw's Brad Seiss, Chris Clay, Sisson and Randall competed in the 1600 relay, the meet's final event. However, there was no finish listed as of press time.
