The sound of this year's bands at WCHS's Battle of the Bands is far from typical.
Bands such as Apples to Ants are straying from their original sound to do something unique. Self described as "funky and indie," each band has written and composed their own originals.Beyond the Puppet's new song, "Winter Looms," is about the political corruption in the world. Many bands have written songs with interesting concepts and opinions. An Honest Attempt's Spencer Swanson wrote "An Angry Song" about changing throughout life.
There is a an excitement around the halls of WCHS about the arrival of new bands and the performances by bands that have been together for several years.
Ojive is brand new to Warsaw's music scene. Bassist Jared Highlen said, "We have a strong blues influence with hints of funk and electronica."
Highlen also plays for Walk on Darkness, which has been together for three years.
Terry Kreft, lead guitarist said, "We consider ourselves straight-forward rock."
Walk on Darkness typically plays cover songs, but they are officially revealing their first completed original song, "Un-originally Named, Rock Band" at Battle of the Bands.
Out of the five bands, Chris Venneracion and Spencer Swanson of An Honest Attempt are changing their usual style the most drastically. Venneracion and Swanson are leaving their acoustic guitars behind and playing in an alternative band.
All five bands have become bands with unique sounds. In this year's Battle of the Bands, not one band will sound like the other.
