Battered Warsaw Woman Also Faces Battery ChargesThe Warsaw woman who was battered by her boyfriend Sept. 23 faces domestic battery charges in the case.
Ashley Ann Gerber, 24, of 415 Kincaide St., Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday for domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16. Her bond was set at $5,000 surety and $250 cash.
Her boyfriend, Zachary Darryn Johnson, 27, of 614 E. Main St., Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:37 p.m. Sept. 23 for the same charge. A story on his arrest appeared in Tuesday’s newspaper.
Warsaw Police Department officer Miles Reichard responded to a domestic dispute on Sept. 23, with three other WPD officers assisting. They talked with Gerber, who had blood all over her shirt and pants and was holding an ice pack to her face. Her nose was swollen and her face was red.
Gerber said she and Johnson were arguing when she said something that caused Johnson to hit her on the face numerous times.
Officers spoke with Johnson at his mother’s home. He said that while he and Gerber were arguing, she hit him on the face and he responded by hitting her on the face. He admitted he had been drinking and handled the situation poorly, according to court documents.
A witness told officers she saw Johnson drag Gerber back inside the house and hit her on the face.
Another witness said he did not actually witness the confrontation but heard screaming and went outside and saw Johnson leave the residence. He said when he saw Gerber, he could see injuries to her face and she told him she had been hit by Johnson.
A 2-year-old was present in the home during the altercation.
A no contact order between Johnson and Gerber was entered Monday.
