INDIANAPOLIS - Leah Bateman, a member of the Wawasee High School Orchestra, performed with the 2008 Indiana All-State Orchestra at the Indianapolis Convention Center Jan. 19 as part of the 2008 Indiana Music Educator Association Convention.
She was one of 89 Indiana high school students chosen for the honor by competitive auditions held in the fall of 2007 across the state.
The All-State orchestra is sponsored by the Indiana American String Teachers Association. The orchestra performed Antonin Dvorak's "Symphony No. 7" under the direction of guest conductor Marcus Tsutakawa of Seattle, Wash. This was the first time the All-State Orchestra performed an entire symphony for its concert program.
Bateman, a sophomore at WHS, is a cello student of Weiqun He of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and plays at WHS under the direction of Dr. Joyce Dubach. She is also a member of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the daughter of Herb and Cindy Bateman, Leesburg.
