Barons Sweep Squires

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER – Visiting DeKalb swept a non-conference baseball doubleheader from Manchester Saturday, taking the first game 16-3 in five innings, and the second 11-5.
After falling behind by four runs in the first inning, Manchester fought back with three runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning, hitting five singles in the frame. But the Barons scored twice more in the second and third innings, then brought the run-rule into effect with eight runs in the fifth.
Bailey Ness had three hits for the Squires, with Rylie Rickert adding two hits and Hayes Sturtsman had a hit and drove in two runs.
The Squires took a 5-1 lead after three innings of the second game, largely on Sturtsman’s three-ru homer. DeKalb answered with four runs to tie the game in the fourth, then added one in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh to pull away from Manchester.
Manchester (3-11) hosts Tippecanoe Valley today in a Three Rivers Conference game.
