Barney Martin Bumbaugh, 78, of North Manchester, died at 9:10 p.m. June 11, 2011, in his residence. He was born April 19, 1933, in Warsaw, to Girrard M. “Judd” and Ethel F. Deerwester Bumbaugh, who preceded him in death. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jo McDonald. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953–57 as electrician with the 91st Field Maintenance. Moving to North Manchester from Warsaw seven years ago, he worked at Dana Corp. for 32 years as a tool grinder, retiring in 1995. He was a 1951 graduate of Warsaw High School. He loved softball and was a pitcher on the U.S. Air Force team while serving. He loved bowling, riding his motorcycle. More recently had taken up biking – riding 20 miles a day. His love was music - especially piano and violin and played with the Peru Symphony and in some plays at the Honeywell Center. He was so proud of his sons. He was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Warsaw, where he had attended since he was a boy. He was the church organist. Surviving are six sons: Garold (and spouse Cheryl) Bumbaugh and Dave (and spouse Dolly) Bumbaugh, all of Claypool; Jeffrey Bumbaugh, Larwill; Joseph (and spouse Christy) Bumbaugh, Syracuse; and Jim Bumbaugh and Paul (and spouse Kelly) Bumbaugh, all of Pierceton; two sisters, Joan Phillips, Oakdale, La.,; and Lois Franklin, Kalispell, Mont.; his mother-in-law, Lavore Nesbitt, North Manchester; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and his dog, Mollie, who misses him very much. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Max, Gordy and John Bumbaugh; a sister, Juarine Lee - Choicej; and his father-in-law. Private graveside services will be at a later date in Marion National Cemetery.
