Fire destroyed a barn on the Russell Bauer property, 11349 S CR 100E, Friday afternoon. Firefighters from Silver Lake, Claypool, Sidney, Chester, Burket and Akron fought the blaze into the evening which was initially reported around 4:30 p.m. The barn, filled with wooden pallets, was considered a total loss. No report was given regarding the cause of the fire at press time. According to Dave Surfus, Silver Lake assistant fire chief, more than 50,000 gallons of water were used at the scene.
