Posted
BARBEE LAKE - Barbee Property Owners Association held its second annual pirates parade Aug. 5.

A total of 11 boats participated on the parade held on the channels of Barbee Lake.

More than 85 people participated in the parade representing Big Barbee, Little Barbee, Kuhn, Seacrest, Irish, Sawmill and Banning lakes. Participants dressed as pirates and decorated their boats.

The parade was part of national Pirates Weekend, which is held the first weekend in August.

First-place winners received trophies, and second-place winners received gift certificates from local merchants.

The youngest pirate was 18 months old, and the oldest pirate was 82, according to parade coordinator Kathy Schlotterback.

The parade was held to raise funds for the Barbee Lake Property Owners Association.

More than $5,000 has been raised this year for weed control on the lake.

The winner of the best decorated boat was Dan, Maggie and Greg Lothamer and Niki Sutton, Josh Rothgeb and Barb and Kent Brown.

Best costume went to Deb and Stan Taylor and the Lynn Antrim family.

Best pirates spirit was George and Judy Stanley. Decorated as an old dead ship, the skeletons hung off the side of the small pontoon.

The pirate's parade will be held the first Saturday in August next year.
