Barbara Kay Davis, 67, of 1907 LaVista Drive, Warsaw, passed away at 2:35 a.m. April 14, 2012, in her residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was born July 9, 1944, in Warsaw, to Fred and Lucille Leedy Steiner. On Feb. 7, 1965, she married John W. Davis Jr., who survives.
She was a waitress for Humpty Dumpty, Horn’s Sunnymead and the Shrine Building, as well as working as a clerk at Vogue Cleaners, and a receiving clerk at Owen’s Supermarket. A lifetime resident of Kosciusko County, she was a past member of Walnut Creek United Methodist Church, Warsaw, and Warsaw Wesleyan Church. She loved to cook and write recipes, especially baking cookies with the kids, who enjoyed her Christmas fudge. She also loved going to the Warsaw Speedway and the Miami County Raceway to watch her husband, grandson and granddaughter race modifieds, sprints, mini-sprints and quarter midgets. Her biggest hobby was to go “junkin” at garage sales and most of all she loved the Lord.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cindy (and spouse Joe) Kimmel, Mentone, and Sandy (and spouse Clay) Layne, Warsaw; a son, John III (and spouse Holly) Davis, Akron; five grandchildren: Sam (and fiance RaeAnne) Kimmel, Barbie Kimmel, Allison and Brooklynn Layne and Brianna Davis; a sister, Harriett (and spouse Robert) Freeze, Mishawaka; and two brothers, Terry (and spouse Tina) Steiner, Mesquite, Texas, and Thomas (and spouse Doreen) Steiner, Huntington. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, with Pastor Derrick Bean officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
