AKRON - Barbara J. Chappel, 76, of 404 E. Rural St., Akron, died at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 23, 2009, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born June 22, 1933, in Allen County, to Myron and Edith French Hines. On June 5, 1955, in Angola, she married Glenn S. Chappel, who died Jan. 30, 2001.
She was a former supervisor at United Technology. She was a South Whitley High School graduate and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved all kinds of animals and enjoyed supporting various animal shelters. She also loved to read.
Surviving are two sons, Steven Chappel, Columbia City, and David Chappel, Akron; two grandchildren, Chris (and spouse Brian) Senegar and Amy Chappel, all of Columbia City; a great-grandson, Tyler Senegar; two sisters, Sue, who lives in Georgia, and Sandy, who lives in Connecticut; and a very good friend, Lovie Mathias, Akron. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Teresa Chappel, and a brother, Mike Hines.
Following her wishes, there will be no public service.
Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, is in charge of arrangements.
