Barbara Elliott

Posted
BOURBON – Barbara Morgan Elliott, 92, of Bourbon,  held her husband, daughter and granddaughter’s hands until she peacefully went into God’s open arms on Friday, April 17, 2021, at the home of her daughter in Huntertown.

She was born on born Aug. 11, 1928, in Plymouth, to the late Oscar and Hazel Unger Morgan.

Surviving is her husband, Jake Elliott, Bourbon; daughter, Sara McKrill, Huntertown; and granddaughter, Morgan, Indianapolis. She is also survived by two sisters: Helen Robinson, Tippecanoe; and Lois Evans, Plymouth; and one brother Darren Morgan, Plymouth. She was loved by oodles and oodles of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Oscar Morgan; sisters, Norma, Kay, Mary Ann and Jane; and brothers, Lloyd, Dick and Stanley; and son-in-law, Mark McKrill.

Barbara graduated from Lapaz High school in 1945. She worked at the Plymouth glove factory. She also played softball on the Tippecanoe All-Stars. She was a member of the Tippecanoe Progress club forever.  Jake rolled into her life at the Plymouth Roller-skating rink. They were married on April 6, 1948, and incredibly, they just celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary while she was in Lutheran Hospital.  After they were married, Barbara was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in 1951. She was told no one with Addison’s disease had ever conceived, carried a baby to full term, and both mom and baby had survived delivery. Well, they were married for 18 years when she proved them wrong and made the medical miracle books when she had, their daughter, Sara.  Barbara was an incredible homemaker and worked alongside Jake in the fields until he retired.  Barbara loved to dance, play euchre, camp and watch the Cubs!  There was always a fresh picked bouquet on her table of lilies, daffodils, larkspur, bachelor buttons, glads or poppies from her garden. She still grew many vegetables during the summer to eat and to can.  In the wintertime, she snuck to the basement to crack walnuts from her walnut tree. Jake said, “She was a damn good cook!” She always had something baked in case company stopped by. When it came to family reunion time, no one could fry chicken like Barbara.  She shared her cooking secrets with Sara and Morgan. They will remember her every time they make noodles and her amazing pecan cinnamon rolls. If you knew Barbara, you were blessed.  If you knew Barbara, a piece of your heart will never be the same.

Services for Barbara will be with Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home in Bourbon. Visitation hours are Thursday, April 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 23 with visitation an hour before. Her body will rest at the Tippecanoe Cemetery, Tippecanoe.  There will be a luncheon following at 11575 Elm Road, Bourbon.
