Band Wagon

Editor, Times-Union:
Has anyone seen the band?

Apparently, there is one somewhere.

Please, tell me, where is the band?

I know there must be a band because I’ve noticed so many with so little reason trying to get on the band’s wagon.

Do you remember Pearl Harbor?

I do.

Did you know anyone personally who was killed at Pearl Harbor?

I did.

It has been a long time ago, but even at that young age it was burned into my mind forever.

So it is with Sept. 11, 2001, and the loss of so many lives – at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, in a field in Pennsylvania. We all died a little that day.

The 9-11 act of war against the United States, too, burns in my mind. I remember.

I remember 9-11 as a Pearl Harbor against this country, and that those responsible are only the tip of a larger spear aimed at our Republic, not any other country ... aimed directly at us.

I remember those who gave their lives, many while attempting to save others. The large majority of those who died on 9-11 were American citizens, or folks here taking advantage of the American Dream by plying their trade in this great nation.

There are those who would make the 10th anniversary of a terrible event in United States history something other than what it is: An observance to honor those who died at the hands of an enemy, and an attack on this free nation by those who would wish us not to be free.

The observance of the 10th year following 9-11 should not be a world order acknowledgement event of any kind.

Why are the first responders and clergy not represented on our remembrance wagon?

Are we not “...One nation, under God, indivisible...”?
