NORTH MANCHESTER - "Crossing Borders" is the theme of the Symphonic Band concert at Manchester College Friday.
In January, the 34-student band will take a musical service trip to Puerto Rico, with performances scheduled in hospitals and churches. Band members also will deliver food to underserved areas and maybe even do some construction.
Friday's concert will help raise money for travel costs while the band is in Puerto Rico. The repertoire includes popular adventure movie music, pieces from Russia and England and "Hoe Down" by Aaron Copland. Conductor is Suzanne B. Gindin, assistant professor of music.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium. Tickets are $3.50 at the door; reservations are not necessary. Admission is free for senior citizens and children under 12.
