Peter Balke, 15, son of Pat and Kathy Balke of Pierceton, won an Honorable Mention in the 20th Annual Chopin Youth Competition.
Balke is a piano student of Ellen Shearer of Winona Lake.The event, sponsored by the South Bend Area Music Teachers Association and the Chopin Fine Arts Club, included a concert by Dr. John Owings, pianist and judge for the event.
Balke and the other winning students were honored at the concert at IUSB on May 18 and played in a masterclass with Dr. Owings at Shirk's Piano Store in Mishawaka May 19.
