The Baker Youth Club recently received a letter of commitment from the Kosciusko 21st Century Foundation Inc. for $100,000 to be used towards the construction of a new youth center on Market Street.
The letter helps the Baker Youth Club in its efforts to apply for a $500,000 matching grant from the Indiana Office of Rural Affairs. In order to be eligible for the grant, the club must raise a total of $500,000 in the next three weeks.
"We really appreciate the tremendous support being provided by the K21 Foundation toward our goal," Baker Youth Club executive director Tracy Furnivall said in a press release.
K21 members said the youth club encouraged what the foundation looked for in a healthy community.
"The Baker Youth Club has been a member of the Warsaw community for 80 years. We are delighted to participate with the other funding agencies to construct a new building for the Baker Youth Club," Willis Alt, president of K21, said. "Our goal of promoting health fitness fits very well with the Youth Club's motto of improving the body, mind and spirit of the youth in our community."
