The end of summer - as far as kids are concerned, anyway - will be here in just a few short weeks.
That's when the 1997-98 school year begins.
Whitko, which usually leads the pack in kicking off the school year, is easing its way into this year's studies with an Aug. 22 start date. Tippecanoe Valley's first day is Aug. 18, while Triton, Warsaw and Wawasee all begin class Aug. 19.
Most schools require parents of kindergarten students to provide their child's birth certificate, immunization record and Social Security card at registration. Following is a list of other information parents will need to enroll their children in school. Anyone with questions may call the office of their child's school.
Tippecanoe Valley
Registration is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 and noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 8. New high school students may register from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11.
Book rental fees are, kindergarten, $41.80; first grade, $108.70; second grade, $91.60; third grade, $75.90; fourth grade, $77.55; fifth grade, $80.63; sixth grade, $80.70; seventh grade, $77.60; eighth grade, $67.33.
First day: Aug. 18.
Triton
The elementary office will open for the school year Aug. 4; new residents are encouraged to enroll their children as soon as possible after this date.
Textbook rental collection dates are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 and 13, as well as 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13. Parents should come to the office then for enrollment verification.
Book rental fees are, kindergarten, $55.31; first grade, $133.80; second grade, $97.18; third grade, $81.69; fourth grade, $87.81; fifth grade, $83.40; sixth grade, $92.43.
Registration at the junior-senior high school is 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 and Aug. 14, with additional hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13.
First day: Aug. 19.
Warsaw
Registration for students in all Warsaw schools is set for noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 7 and 11 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 and 12.
Book rental fees are, kindergarten, $28; first grade, $80; second grade, $68; third grade, $56; fourth grade, $50; fifth grade, $52; sixth grade, $56.
First day: Aug. 19.
Wawasee
Registration will take place from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 8 and 11, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 12.
Book rental fees are, kindergarten, $42.80; readiness, $51.85; first grade, $87.50; second grade, $80.95; third grade, $88.80; fourth grade, $74.25; fifth grade, $67.65; sixth grade, $89.75; seventh grade, $92.80; eighth grade, $91.45.
First day: Aug. 19.
Whitko
Registration is planned from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 6 and 8 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 7 at Pierceton and South Whitley elementaries. At the middle school, students may sign up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 12 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 13 and 14. High school students may register from noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 14 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 15.
Book rental fees are, kindergarten, $49.77; first grade, $91.39; second grade, $95.10; third grade, $99.20; fourth grade, $102.09; fifth grade, $71.41.
First day: Aug. 22.
