Editor, Times-Union: Last Friday’s Times-Union ran an article about our community’s senior citizen transportation needs. There was information in the article that indicated maybe the candidate for mayor did not have some current information regarding senior van (including handicapped) transportation. Our community has had a senior van transportation program for years offered through Kosciusko County Council on Aging and Aged. Four vans provide over 14,000 rides annually to seniors. Most are for medical and other related essential services. Seniors only need to call the day prior to their ride date. This service is a door to door operation. Seniors are assisted on and off the vans, and into their destination, if needed. It literally is a personalized service. Making sure the cat is put out, the stove is off, and the senior has appropriate meds. We receive Federal/State reimbursements for most of these rides. As well, United Way funds generously support this program. K21, Saemann Foundation, City and County government, as well as many other generous people and businesses give support to our efforts. Please visit www.Kosciuskoseniorservices.com for more information and to volunteer to support this and other senior citizen programs offered by Kosciusko County Council on Aging and Aged, also known as Kosciusko Community Senior Services.
