Editor, Times-Union: Several months ago, the slogan “We are Warsaw” was widely used to rally the community around approving the renovation of two schools and building a new elementary school. This slogan signifies that this community is proud of what is has accomplished and provided for its residents. Warsaw is proud of its educational facilities, its being the orthopedic capital of the world, its CCAC complex, its Cancer Care Center (shown by its plea for the retention of Dr. Goksel) and other medical provisions, etc. I would like to see this community proudly support the Animal Welfare League’s recently inaugurated campaign for funds to build a new shelter, of which this community can say “We are Warsaw.” I believe it is only fitting for this community to reward the director, Darla McCammon, staff and board members of the present shelter for their fabulous accomplishments. Under Mrs. McCammon’s leadership, this shelter has attained great stability, provided community education opportunities, has an unusually high adoption rate, euthanasia only in extreme cases, etc. It would be a shame if Warsaw fails to add this part of the community in a “We are Warsaw” manner by everyone doing his part in raising the still-needed funds for this very worthy service in our community. Let’s show the area that we are proud of this worthy service in a “We are Warsaw” way. One way each of us can help is by attending and generously participating in the Fur Ball scheduled for Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Toyota of Warsaw showroom, next to Rice Ford. This is not a dance, but a fundraiser featuring the Westminster Dog Show, silent auction, live auction, vendors, K9 demonstrations and music. Please, let’s say “We are Warsaw” by the way we support the new shelter campaign. Chuck Orlando Warsaw
