AWL Names New Executive Director

AWL Names New Executive DirectorThe Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County named its new executive director.

On Dec. 20, the AWL board approved Sally Scott to take the open position. Scott has been with the organization for almost three years.

She said the position is one she applied for previously when the executive director position was open, and after learning that the spot was open again she re-applied. This time, she was chosen.

Scott said she is excited to take up the position. “We’ve done so many wonderful things so far, but I think we still have a really long way to go and I think working together, we can get there,” she said.

As far as goals go, she has some things in mind already.

“For starters, I want to kick off on our fundraising. We have some bills that we need to pay and the sooner we get them paid off, the better. I want to start doing some events to help bring in that funding for the shelter,” Scott said.

“I am also hoping to put in place some new volunteer programs, get the community involved in ways they can help pets and people.”

She said she has always had a love for animals. Before the AWL, her background was in graphic design, illustration and graphic novels and interested in storytelling. She wants to implement those abilities to tell the story of the shelter and it’s pets and hopes it can be used to help in adoptions.

Scott also said that the move that the AWL made earlier this year into a new facility has been a huge change.

“I think the animals are much happier and comfortable. I think our staff is really enjoying the new space, they have places to put things, places to relax. We aren’t having ceiling tiles falling unexpectedly, no holes in the wall, no problems with pests. We also have more room to take in more animals and overall, boosts what we can do for the community,” she said.

The public can visit the new facility at 1048 S. CR 325E, Pierceton, just south of U.S. 30; or find more information about the organization at awlwarsaw.com.
