AWL Care

Editor, Times-Union:

I am a volunteer at the Animal Welfare League. For the last three months, I have exercised the big dogs on a weekly basis averaging 20 dogs per week. One thing I know about animals is that they reflect the environment they live in. With all my contact with many different dogs, I have yet to receive so much as a growl from any animal upon entering its kennel.

How can this be? How can animals that are scared, neglected or abused when they arrive at the shelter be so well-behaved when they are put up for adoption? It is because of the love, care and compassion of the Animal Welfare League staff. Everything they do is to prepare every animal at the shelter to be a healthy animal fit for adoption. The staff provides a high level of care on a daily basis. From daily feeding, grooming and kennel cleaning to medical care and basic behavioral training; each animal is handled with love and respect.

The shelter is an open facility. Any person can witness the work of the staff at any time. You can observe the entire process from the animal's arrival to its adoption. Come see for yourself. More volunteers are needed. Walk a dog, pet a puppy, hold a cat or cuddle a kitten. Just remember that that well-behaved, loving animal you are with is a direct reflection of the people who work with it on a daily basis: the staff of the Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League.

There are nothing but good animals up for adoption because there are nothing but good people working with them.
