Aviation Board OKs Payment For Engineering Study To Lower Power Lines

The Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners Tuesday approved two payments for an engineering study to lower power lines at the Warsaw Municipal Airport.
Nick King, airport manager, said he has discussed with the Federal Aviation Administration lowering the power lines on the east end of the airport. The payments are for $8,065.75 and $61,202.50 to NGC Corp. for engineering for lowering the power lines.
In other business the board approved using the airport’s insurance to pay for a power line issue.
King said on Oct. 26 NIPSCO was installing power to the new FAA remote radio transmitter that allows aircrafts to communicate with Fort Wayne Airport to receive clearance or close the flight plan once landing. While installing power, NIPSCO cut several Warsaw Municipal Airport power lines.
Contractors have since fixed the problem.
On Feb. 5, King said NIPSCO’s insurance company said they were not at fault, but they were willing to pay 50 percent of the claim.
King said Mike Valentine, city attorney, suggested using the airport’s insurance to cover the invoice and let the insurance get money from NIPSCO.
The amount is for $10,397.69 for Michiana Contracting.
Also during the meeting, the board approved Zimmer Biomet terminating its lease for a piece of land at the southern end of the airport.
“They originally had plans to put in a hangar building, but those plans are no longer in the books and they’d like to cancel the land lease,” King said. “As airport manager I have no objection to this.”
Ernie Wiggins, board member, also supported the lease termination.
“They’ve been a good corporate partner all these years,” Wiggins said.
