Aviation Board OKs 5-Year Zimmer Lease

The Warsaw Board of Aviation Commissioners approved a new five-year hangar lease for Zimmer Inc.

Last month the board decided to table the discussion of a new lease with Zimmer Inc.  that would include a 24 month opt-out clause. At last night’s board meeting the board was trying to figure out what to do about the request for a 24 month opt-out clause.

“Who knows, with the distribution center moving ,whether or not their flights will decrease,” said board member Charlie Smith.

Later in the meeting board member Gene Zale informed the board that he was okay with the opt-out, but it should come at a price.

“Maybe it will get them off their duff and talking to us about what is going on,” Zale said.

Board member John Yingling agreed with Zale that the opt-out should come at a price.

“They are wanting a five year deal for a two year price. That's not right,” Yingling said.

Zale motioned to give Zimmer the five year lease with 24 month opt-out at an increased rate.

“They are paying $3,639.80 per month, so I say we raise the rent to $4,000 a month,” Zale said.

After some discussion board president Jay Rigdon made a new proposal.

“I think we should offer them what they want at the $3,639.80 per month and include a 24 month opt-out, but if they choose to opt-out they must pay us six months worth of rent,” Rigdon said.

Board member Paul Grossnickle liked the proposal.

“This seems like the only way to go,” Grossnickle said.
