OSCEOLA – Avery L. Van Dyke, 77, Mishawaka, died April 7, 2015. A Claypool native, he was born March 7, 1938, to Clemans M. and Cora Pratt Van Dyke. He grew up on the family farm. He was a graduate of Claypool High School and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the United Steel Workers Local #12775 and had retired from NIPSCO after 30 years of employment. He was a gentle, humble and intelligent man, who enjoyed Scripture, music, gardening and home improvement projects. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Thomas Van Dyke, Clemans M. “Junior” Van Dyke Jr. and Harold Van Dyke; and his sister, Marilyn Green. Committal services are at 1 p.m. Saturday in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
