Avanell Houska, 82, died at 4:35 a.m. Oct. 24, 2012, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
She was born Dec. 15, 1929, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to James and Catherine Miller Whitaker. On Oct. 16, 1962, she married Chester Houska, who died July 27, 2004.
Living most of her life in Kosciusko County, she was a homemaker and a member of Pentecostal Lighthouse Church.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Kathylene Dannemen, Chicago, Ill.; a stepson, Wayne (and spouse Sandy) Houska, S.C.; and two brothers, Roby (and spouse Rebecca) Whitaker, North Manchester, and Delmer (and spouse Silvia) Whitaker, Warsaw. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Lacy and Luther Whitaker, and two sisters, Susie England and Sadie Crist.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, Warsaw, officiated by the Rev. Glenn Hughes of Pentecostal Lighthouse Church and Pastor Dennis Bollenbacker of chaplain at Mason Health & Rehab, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
