Auto Indiana Is New Show At Center For History

Posted
NORTH MANCHESTER – Center for History will host Auto Indiana, the Indiana Historical Society’s newest traveling exhibition, from Aug. 5 through Aug. 29. The exhibition will be on display at the Center for History, 122 E. Main St., North Manchester.
With Auto Indiana, visitors will take a ride through Indiana’s rich automotive past as they discover the Hoosier State’s prolific contributions. From inventors and innovators like Elwood Haynes and Ralph Teetor to automakers like Studebaker and Duesenberg, Indiana has left an indelible mark on the industry for more than a century – and vice versa.
The exhibit illuminates ties between the automobiles and the development of many other economic opportunities for the “Crossroads of America,” such as the iron, steel and glass business. It also explores how the automobile became part of American Dream and popular culture, from movies to making personal memories.
Guests can also gaze down the road ahead for Hoosiers, from environmental impact of automobiles to a look at manufacturing today. Auto Indiana is made possible by Kroger.
The Center for History is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Free public admission is offered Friday and Saturday of FunFest, Aug. 8 and 9.  For more information about this exhibit, call 260-982-0672 or visit www.nmanchesterhistory.org To learn more about the IHS and its programs, call 317-232-1882 or visit www.indianahisory.org
