Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and detectives have determined that a horse found dead Friday night had died from accidental causes and not a “malicious” attack. According to a press release from the KCSD, deputies and detectives were recently sent to 3591 E. CR 450S, Warsaw, in regard to the death of a horse. Officers met with the owner, Christina L. Meade, Friday at approximately 9:20 p.m. Meade explained that she had been gone for approximately two hours and returned to find her 27-year-old Appaloosa horse deceased inside a stall within the barn. Meade noted that the horse had blood underneath its jaw and chin area and that the barn doors were found closed but had originally been left propped open before she left earlier in the evening. A KCSD detective and animal control officer returned to the location Monday with Meade and examined the stall and barnyard area more intensively, as well as original scene photographs. Detectives concluded from the evidence that the horse was not maliciously injured but sustained accidental self-inflicted injuries that subsequently caused its death. Evidence suggested that the halter had gotten caught on an unknown object and caused the original wound. The release states that Meade believes someone familiar with the operations of the farm had allowed the horse outside the barn while she was gone. She stated to officers that she would request this potential individual to contact her regarding the events that occurred on that Friday evening.
