The early advertising campaigns of the South Shore Line railway are some of the most iconic images of their time periods. Depictions of vacation spots in northern Indiana were highlighted in the fantastic and nostalgic ads of the 1920s South Shore Line advertising campaign, which produced booklets, movies and in particular a set of colorful, artistic posters which attracted people from all over the region to the natural beauty of this area. Come see and hear about these artistic marketing campaigns in the 1920s and to learn about the artists behind some of the region’s best-loved advertising art. Stephen McShane, author of the book ‘Moonlight in Duneland,’ which tells the history of the advertising artwork for the South Shore, will share his knowledge and expertise as well as show many pieces of artwork from the South Shore’s history. Come and help the Syracuse Public Library kick off its adult programming summer season with this presentation Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Syracuse Public Library. Free for everyone. For more information, call 574-457-3022. Pictured is circulation assistant Amy Troutman presenting McShane’s book ‘Moonlight in Duneland: The Illustrated Story of the Chicago South Shore and South Bend Railroad’. Copies of the book will be for sale before and after the presentation and the author will be happy to sign copies.
