Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts' production of Cole Porter's “Anything Goes” has quickly become one of the most talked-about productions of the summer season, earning rave reviews from audiences, according to a news release from the theater.
The musical continues its run through Saturday, Aug. 8.
"I just didn't expect to love it as much as I did," said one patron after attending the production. "It's probably in my top five favorite Wagon Wheel shows I've ever seen. I was laughing so hard, and I couldn't believe how many songs I knew. I hope everyone comes to see this show."
According to Wagon Wheel Communications and Donor Relations Coordinator Sam Engle, the overwhelming audience response reflects the role the final production traditionally plays in the theater's summer season.
"Every summer season is carefully planned to build toward an unforgettable finale," said Engle. "Our fifth show slot is what we like to call ‘The Showstopper’. It's big, bold, and packed with energy. We always want audiences to leave the season on a high note. If someone thought ‘Footloose’ was going to be their favorite show this summer, I think ‘Anything Goes’ is going to surprise them. Scott Michaels has a real gift for knowing what audiences will love, and this production is a perfect example."
Featuring music and lyrics by Indiana native Cole Porter, “Anything Goes” is a dazzling musical comedy filled with romance, mistaken identities, tap dancing and timeless songs. Set aboard a luxurious ocean liner crossing the Atlantic, the Tony Award-winning musical features beloved classics including "You're the Top," "I Get a Kick Out of You" and the showstopping title number "Anything Goes."
