Auction Fundraiser Set for Warsaw Boy

Posted
There will be a fundraiser for Erik Miller Jr., a Warsaw 7-year-old with cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease, Nov. 10 in Elkhart.

The auction fundraiser and bake sale will help pay for medical expenses and costs for his family such as a wheelchair and handicapped-accessible vehicle.

The fundraiser is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at The Worship Center, 60536 CR 113, Elkhart.

The quarter paddle auction will begin at 3 p.m. The family is currently accepting auction and bake sale items.

Erik, a second-grader at Jefferson Elementary, weighed just more than 1 pound when he was born four months prematurely. He spent his first four months in the hospital and has had 50 surgeries in his short life, said adoptive mother Danette Hunter.

He has cerebral palsy, chronic lung disease, a ventriculoperitoneal shunt and suffers from seizures. He wears braces on his legs, uses a wheelchair and can’t walk or talk.

Erik has about 50 trips to doctors a year, from Warsaw to St. Louis.

“I could write a book on what his life’s been about,” Hunter said. “But he’s big and strong. He’s the joy of our life.”

She added that the family would also like to buy him a tablet computer, which he could use to communicate.

For more information or to donate, call Hunter at 574-269-5128 or Kristi Miller at 574-825-0737.
