Atwood Lions Hosting Fish Fry Jan. 15

Posted
ATWOOD – The Atwood Lions Club is hosting its first Jonah Club Fish Fry for the New Year on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Atwood Community Building.

Serving begins at 4 p.m. and goes until 6:30 p.m.

The Psi Iota Xi Sorority will be furnishing a bake sale and these ladies are known for their pies, cookies and other items.

Fish fry cost is $11 for adults, children 4 to 11 $4, 3 and under are free.

Eat in or pick up carry-outs at the drive through.

Last year this Lions Club was able to use fish fry proceeds to help both Mentone and Madison Elementary School nurses and students lunch programs. They also donated to the Warsaw Community High School and Tippecanoe Valley High School Backpack programs. Atwood Lions sponsored Madison and Harrison elementary schools with the “Dictionary Project,” which is a program initiated by International Lions and adopted by Lions Club worldwide.

Every Lions Club in Kosciusko County participates in the “Dictionary Project” so every elementary third-grade student has his or her own dictionary. This is the ninth year the Lions have participated in the program and find it very rewarding.

Atwood Lions also gave two $500 scholarships to graduating family member students of Lion members.

Beaman Home was a recipient of funds, also, to assist with all the expenses they have to face daily.

There were additional funds given to assist families in Atwood who were going through difficult medical issues that the Lions felt they wanted to help.

For 2019, a total of over $10,000 was raised by fish fries and given out by this Lions Club.

The motto for Lions world wide is “We Serve.”
