Atwood Lions Collect Goods For Hurricane Victims

Posted
ATWOOD – The Atwood Lions Club held a fish fry Sept. 13 and asked patrons to donate hurricane relief items.

The community responded, donating canned goods, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, baby supplies, paper products and much more.

The donated items were delivered to World Compassion Network and will be delivered to victims of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

WCN works through local churches or organizations when responding to natural disasters.  They do an assessment of the situation and provide disaster relief supplies, equipment or volunteer teams.

The group?has a 22-foot trailer, generators and chain saws that can be deployed from their headquarters in Warsaw.

WCN accepts volunteers. Call 574-267-5427.

In addition, $600 was donated and the money sent to the Lions National Hurricane Relief Fund.

Several hundred Lions members from across the country traveled to the Houston area immediately after the hurricane. They remain in the area, assisting in cleanup and the distribution of products.

The Atwood Lions expressed gratitude to the community for its generosity.
