One of the teens injured in an Aug. 6 accident in Atwood has been upgraded to fair condition, while the other remains in critical condition.
Officials at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, said this morning that Travis Middaugh, 18, of Nappanee, is now in fair condition. Ignacio Vasquez, 18, Franklin, Wis., is still in critical condition at the same hospital.
Both teens suffered multiple injuries and were unconscious at the scene, police said. Both were airlifted to Parkview after the early-morning accident in which a car driven by Middaugh slammed into the Atwood Lunch Box Cafe on Main Street (Old Road 30). Police said the car was traveling "at an extremely high rate of speed" when Middaugh apparently lost control of the vehicle.
