With plans to open BBQ on Broadway in Mentone within the next 30 to 45 days, owner Elisabeth Thompson appeared before the Kosciusko County Alcohol and Tobacco Commission (ATC) on Thursday for a transfer.

The transfer was for a beer and wine retailer restaurant license for BBQ on Broadway LLC, doing business as BBQ on Broadway, 104 S. Broadway St., Mentone.

BBQ on Broadway will offer barbecue and craft beer, Thompson told the ATC.

Explaining why she had to get a transfer, she said, “I sent in to the state to have my license transferred because the location has always been pending to that address. And then they notified me saying that I also had to do a transfer of ownership out of my personal name to the business name, which I am the 100% owner of BBQ on Broadway LLC.”

Thompson said that’s why she had to appear before the ATC on Thursday because of the name along with the address change.

Excise officer April Tackett reminded the other Commission members that the first time they approved the license, it was location pending. “Everybody has to come back once they find a location,” she said.

Tackett asked Thompson if she was ready to open or not. Thompson said about 30 days or 45 at most.

“So less than 90?” Tackett asked.

“Yes. Definitely less than 90,” Thompson replied. “The plumbing is done. The electric is done. We have just been on hold waiting on people to come spray foam and I just got the call yesterday that they would do it Friday and Saturday. And then my contractor said he would have the inside walls up within a week, so then we’re ready to start putting it together.”

Tackett told her she didn’t need to fill out the escrow form then since it was less than 90 days before the business opened. She also told Thompson that she will still be considered in escrow until the final inspection is completed, but if it’s going to be less than 90 days than she didn’t need to do the extra escrow form.

Commission member Dan Woods made the motion to approve the transfer, President Elim Smith seconded it and it was approved 3-0. Member Alan Alderfer was absent.

Tackett told Thompson to call her when she was ready for the final inspection.

There also were three license renewals without violations before the Commission on Thursday. All were approved and included:

• Warsaw Bowl Inc., doing business as Warsaw Bowl, 1702 E. Market St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor restaurant permit.

• Jham Bar LLC, doing business as Lucky’s Tavern, 560 S. Main St., North Webster, beer, wine and liquor restaurant permit.

• KH Brewing LLC, doing business as Hoplore Brewing, 307 W. Market St., Warsaw, beer, wine and liquor river and lake permit.
