Laurie Renier is seeking re-election to the Kosciusko County assessor position.
She was first appointed in 2001 to fill the term of County Assessor Sharon Thompson, who died.
Renier started in the office in August 1986, working on the 1989 reassessment.
After reassessment, she stayed on working her way up to chief deputy. She has seen a lot of changes in the way that assessing is done. The largest change has been transitioning to market value, according to her press release. Trending property values can change each year according to sales that have occurred in the prior year.
On July 1, 2007, all 17 townships assessment work came into the county office to be data collected and valued. Renier and her staff were able to get the assessment process back on track.
Kosciusko County was one of two counties in the state to have tax bills completed on time this year.
Renier is a member of the Indiana Association of Assessing Officers, International Association of Assessing Officers, Indiana County Assessors Association, Association of Indiana Counties, Indiana Farm Bureau, Kosciusko County Republican Women's Club (former president), Warsaw Tiger Booster Club and Warsaw Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
Renier has been married 15 years to Gary Renier, who works at DePuy. They have two daughters, Olivia Grace, 7, a second-grader at Harrison Elementary School, and Hilary Faith, 2.
