Boy, some people are notorious for opening their mouth and inserting their foot. A couple of case points: Imus and King. Now what I'm about to say will sound like I am siding with them, and that is not the case. What each said in jest or whatever was not proper.
The "but" in all of this is that I am exhausted by all the rhetoric in the news. We all say regrettable things, and, yes, I know we aren't all in the public format. I guess it has come to the point that no matter what anyone says, it's not okay. The Rutgers team is basically black, and I would feel for them, but they let black men and singers say despicable things about their race, and I don't see them going on national television and protesting. If they did, I would more than respect their position. As it is, I don't.
This name-calling is a national epidemic. Foul language is used in every venue, and it is the lowest form of speech in any language. But unless you cross race lines and stand up and say enough is enough, then shut up! Oprah does not impress me and a live new conference doesn't either. What impresses me is the courage to face your own and say shut up!
As far as Larry King's comment about Alzheimer's well ... we all get old if we are blessed, and we all pray we still have all our faculties when we die. But some are not so blessed. And as I see Mr. King is still alive and walking, and his time is not over. He has no way of knowing how he'll fair as life goes on. We all need to be real careful how we approach others' sins and devastations. We might find ourselves there before God says this is it.
I don't want the argument that people are allowed to say whatever about their own race but not others. That's hooey and we all know it. My saying: Let's stop the nonsense won't go far, but if each of us stands up when someone says something lewd or wrong and says it is not right, it would change things.
I find it funny that on television they will bleep the derogatory for manure, but not the word for one's behind. Or bleep profanity using the Lord's name in vain or not. Who decides what I want to hear on TV or the movies? Guess! I do and you do. It is only by our protest will things change. As a Christian, I am obligated to stand up for what I know is right.
James 3:10 is the passage about the sin of omission and I quote from the Contemporary English Version: "If you obey every law except one, you are still guilty of breaking them all" - God. We are responsible before God what we let pass through our minds and out of our mouths.
