WABASH - Works by internationally recognized floral artist Robert H. Laessig will be on display in the Honeywell Center's Clark Gallery May 2-30. The Clark Gallery is open everyday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Laessig - at 93 years old - has achieved international fame as a painter of natural landscapes. Some of his most notable career highlights include painting extraordinary pictures of World War II while serving in the 13th Air Force Historical Section, serving as the art director for American Greetings Corp. in Ohio, and designing all the White House Christmas cards for the Johnson Administration.

His artwork has been featured in numerous galleries across the country, such as the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Laessig also was represented in "Arts in the Embassy" in Oslo, Norway, from 2003-06.

As a young adult, Laessig studied textile design at an art school in Plauen, Germany. He later went on to study at the Art Students' League in New York City before moving onto American Greetings Corp., where he worked from 1950-70.

Laessigís acrylic and watercolor artwork is made with a rich palette of colors on a wax-treated surface that is modified from batik - a technique he learned as a textile designer in his early years. On his official Web site www.roberthlaessig.com, Laessig says, "My work is inspired by nature. It is a reflection of the natural beauty all around us."
