Arthur's Record-Setting Night Is Not Enough For Grace

WINONA LAKE - Grace College junior guard Eve Arthur put on a free-throw clinic Wednesday night at Lancer Gymnasium.

However, her effort was not enough as Bethel College defeated the Grace College Lancers 78-65 in the conference opener for both schools.

Arthur set or tied three school records by going 14 of 14 from the free-throw line and scoring 22 points. She already sits atop the leaders in career free-throw percentage at Grace College at 79.5.

Bethel scored the last five points of the first half as Jyll Dingman hit a three-pointer and a two-pointer at the buzzer to give the Pilots a 31-25 advantage at the break.

That lead quickly ballooned to 12 points in the second half at 41-29.

But Grace began heating up from behind the three-point arc and eventually got as close as seven points. But Bethel seemed to have an answer for every Lancer run and held on for the 13-point victory.

Bethel shot 54 percent from the field and made 10 of 16 three-pointers on the night. The Lancers, on the other hand, shot just 35 percent from the floor.

Kristi Keilman tossed in 11 points for Grace, and Tiffany Alberts added 10 and three steals.

Bethel was led by Dingman's 19 points. Joy Ketelsen made all five of her three-point attempts and ended with 15 points, while Marissa Cook dished out 10 assists.

Grace (9-6, 0-1 MCC) will host Marian Saturday in Lancer Gym.
