ROCHESTER – Arthur Ross Craig, 90, formerly of Akron, passed away at 8:15 a.m. March 7, 2012, in Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester.

He was born June 24, 1921, in Rochester, to Merle and Florence Ross Craig. On Jan. 26, 1947, in Rochester, he married Shirley A. Howard, who died Sept. 30, 1997.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was the manager of Peabody Seating Co., North Manchester. He was very active in the Democratic party. He served as the Fulton County surveyor, was a member of the Akron Cemetery Board and was on the Fulton County Housing Board. He was a member of the Akron Church of God and Masonic Lodge 79.

He enjoyed yard work and gardening, and was often seen working on the church’s lawn. He liked to travel to different cities to visit family and friends. As a Notre Dame fan, he cheered on the Irish basketball and football teams.

Surviving are three nieces: Sandra Burch, North Manchester; Ann Kreider, Yardley, Pa.; and Paula Foellinger, Noblesville; a nephew, Craig Schaller, Indianapolis; nine great-nieces and -nephews; and 13 great-great-nieces and -nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Maxine Schaller.

A celebration of the life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Akron Church of God, 301 West St., with Pastor Terry Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery with graveside military rites by members of the LeRoy Shelton American Legion 36 and Veterans of Foreign Wars 1343.

Calling is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. A Masonic service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
