AKRON ­– Arthur H. “Sonny” Giesler, 77, passed peacefully in his home on the morning of Jan. 26, 2016, in rural Rochester.
He was comforted by his loving wife as he went to be with his Lord and Savior.
He was born Aug. 9, 1938, in Eldon, Okla. He was the son of Earl and Edith Tudor Giesler. On Oct. 23, 2003, he married Patricia McKenzie.
He retired from Midwest Operating Engineers, Valparaiso, where he was a heavy equipment operator and a proud member of the Local 150.
He lived life to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman.  He enjoyed fishing the Tippecanoe River right outside his home. He loved to hunt and eagerly looked forward to deer hunting season every fall. He enjoyed playing softball and was a diehard Cubs fans. He loved to travel with his wife, enjoying trips to Alaska and the islands. He was a nature lover, enjoying gardening and canning. He was a great cook, famous for his biscuits and gravy. He was also a prankster that loved to laugh as well as make others laugh. Most of all he loved his family, friends and his dog, Anne. He was always eager to do anything for anyone.
Surviving are his son, Dan Giesler, Fort Collins, Colo.; two granddaughters, Etta and Jessi Giesler; a brother, Harold Giesler, Rochester; two stepdaughters, Tammy (and spouse Chris) McClone, Pierceton, and Kim (and spouse Jeff) Combs, Los Angeles, Calif.; and a stepson, Jamie (and spouse Pam) Norman, Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and a former wife, Ethel Weidmann.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Jeff Combs officiating. Burial will follow at the Leiters Ford Cemetery.
Calling is from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
