AKRON - The Akron Area Arts League invites the public to an artist's show and reception honoring Akron artist Marilyn Kruger.
The reception, which will feature works by the artist and harp music by Cathy Trout, is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Akron United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The church is one block north of the stoplight on Ind. 19 in downtown Akron. At 2:30 p.m., there will be a short program and Kruger will talk about some of her paintings.
Kruger graduated from Akron High School and went into the field of commercial art but longed for more freedom of creativity. She began studying fine arts, and after graduation taught art in schools in California. She and her family returned to her hometown in 1972, and she began painting and teaching full time. Hundreds of students in the Akron area have studied with her. Most recently, she won Best of Painting at the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart. This is a very prestigious juried art show. In the same show, Kruger won two purchase awards.
Kruger is now working in what she calls her abstract-botanicals series. Several paintings in this series will be on display, as well as her earlier works. Most of Kruger's works are in oils or acrylics.
