A sport-utility vehicle was found engulfed in flames Wednesday night along U.S. 30, and police believe it was intentionally ignited.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. Deputy Sgt. Donald Wiesehan Jr. was called just before 11 p.m. Wednesday to U.S. 30, between Binkley Road and CR 300E, on a report of a burning vehicle, and arrived to find an SUV parked near the railroad tracks there, burning.
The SUV’s vehicle identification number was gone, and license plate could not be recovered due to the fire damage, Wiesehan wrote in his report.
Wiesehan believed the SUV was a Jeep Grand Cherokee, possible 2003 or newer, he said.Wiesehan said the vehicle had been set on fire, and listed the incident as an arson.
The SUV was total loss, and was impounded.
Wiesehan contacted the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department to inform that county of the vehicle in the event a missing vehicle report was received.
