MENTONE - Eighteen minutes after a pair of robberies Thursday morning in Mentone, police had a suspect in custody.
Melvin Paul Cormican, 35, Mentone, was taken into custody at gunpoint by officers Thursday after he allegedly robbed the Dollar General Store and Farmers State Bank in Mentone. The Federal Bureau of Investigations went to Mentone Thursday to investigate the case, and Cormican will face federal charges for the robbery.
According to Mentone Town Marshal Jim Eads, Cormican reportedly entered the Dollar General Store at around 11:28 a.m., brandished a gun and robbed the store clerk.
After running from the store, Cormican allegedly ran to the Mentone branch of Farmers State Bank, showed the gun again, and robbed the teller at gunpoint.
Officers from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and the Mentone Police Department received information that the man ran from the bank to a home at 305 N. Broadway St., Mentone.
The home owner allowed Sgt. Todd Sautter and Sgt. Rick Oliver to enter into the residence, and Cormican was found inside and taken into custody without incident at 11:46 a.m.
Eads said that Cormican reportedly confessed to both robberies during interviews Thursday afternoon at the Kosciusko County Jail.
