LIGONIER – Arnold Shepherd, 75, of Wauseon, Ohio, and formerly of Ligonier, passed away March 18, 2012, in his residence.
He was born June 5, 1936, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Odis and Ethel Johnson Shepherd. In 1954, he married Oralee Whitaker, they resided on their farm in Claypool for 18 years. In 1974, he married Sandra Wysong, they resided in Ligonier for 30 years until her death in 2005.
He was a farmer in Claypool for 18 years and worked at BRC Rubber, Ligonier and Churubusco, for more than 20 years; Skyline RV, Elkhart; Diamond Rental, Ligonier; and the Ligonier Park Department.
He enjoyed fishing with his friends and was an avid bluegill fisherman. He loved spending time with his family and spoiling his grandkids. He also enjoyed being outdoors and keeping his lawn beautiful. He was a past member of Ligonier Elks Lodge, where he had achieved the level of Exalted Ruler. He was also a member and past president of Ligonier Lions.
Surviving are his loving companion of two years, Diana VanHorn, Wauseon, Ohio; two daughters, Sharon (and spouse Fred) Miller, Akron, Holly (and spouse Kevin) Ratliff, Albion; three sons: Bernard Shepherd, Claypool; Darrell (and spouse Jennifer) Shepherd, Winona Lake; and Johnny Farlow, Ligonier; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald (and spouse Patricia) Shepherd, Ligonier. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a grandchild, Amanda Nicole Shepherd; and three brothers, Riley, Raymond and John Shepherd.
Services will be at noon Friday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway South; Ligonier, with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier.
