Argonne Project Causing Traffic Woes

Argonne Project Causing Traffic WoesThe Argonne Road and Parker Street re-alignment project began Monday and motorists are advised to avoid the area unless conducting business.

Rusty Ritter, Rabb/ Kinetico Water Systems general manager, said despite construction he wants to make customers aware that the business will keep its regular business hours.

The business is open Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays. The business is closed Sundays.

Ritter advised through vehicles to use detours, not the business' parking lot.

He said the business has experienced problems with through traffic cutting through its parking lot despite Argonne Road being closed.

The entrance on the south side of the Argonne Road property is open and the Jefferson Street entrance from the east also is open. For customers coming from the south, the Argonne Road entrance is open.

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Thursday approved a temporary truck route for the project.

Warsaw Traffic Safety Commission requested the city close portions of Argonne Road and Jefferson Street, which is the city's route on the east side.

Warsaw Street Dept. Superintendent Lacy Francis advised drivers to be patient and considerate while the project is going on.

"The purpose of the road and street closures is to protect the workers," Francis said.

The temporary truck route to bypass the construction is Center Street and Bronson Street. The detour is signed.

Francis said the first phase of the project will be reconstruction on the south side of Center, Argonne and Jefferson streets.

The second phase will be reconstruction of both sides of Center Street up to Parker Street.

Francis said one lane of Center Street will remain open at all times.

Instead of having two 90-degree turns, there will be more of a sweeping curve after the project is completed.

The two phases should be completed by November, according to Warsaw City Planner Jeremy Skinner.

A traffic signal also will be installed at Jefferson Street and Argonne Road as part of the project.
