Thirteen area wrestlers advanced out of Saturday’s regional competitions, with one claiming a championship.
At the Rochester Regional, Warsaw senior Luis Munoz followed his Plymouth Sectional title win over Culver Academies’ Kayla Miracle with a regional championship at 120 pounds over her again.
With the win, Munoz moves on to this Saturday’s Merrillville Semistate, where a top four finish would advance him to the state finals.
Joining Munoz at the Merrillville Semistate will be three Wawasee Warriors and a Tippecanoe Valley Vikings.
Advancing for Wawasee were freshmen Tristin Ponsler (113), senior Nick Rozow (160) and senior Brian Clark (195), all of whom finished fourth.
For Valley, Wyatt Nelson advanced to semistate with his second-place finish at 126 pounds.
At the Peru Regional, Manchester had four wrestlers finish in second place, advancing to the Fort Wayne Snider Semistate.
Each of Manchester’s wrestlers reached the finals, but had to settle for second place, including Bryce Zook (106), Clayton Moore (126), Neil Snep (182) and Cole Sellers (285).
Also moving on to the Snider Semistate are qualifiers from the Carroll Regional, and Whitko had four of them, including Greg Newman, who finished second at 113.
Also from Whitko, Lane Wolf (120), Colton LeTourneau (126) and Kuyler Bailey (145) all finished fourth.
