MISHAWAKA -ÊThere were no cannons around, nor were there any hefty swimmers jumping into a pool, but countless cannonballs were being launched Thursday in Mishawaka.

Indiana senior high school basketball players hit 26 three-pointers -Êcalled cannonballs by the public address announcer - in the South Bend Tribune All-Star Classic at Bethel's Wiekamp Center. The All-Area team hit 16 three-pointers in shooting down the All-Metro team 132-104.

The metro team comprises players from Elkhart-Mishawaka-South Bend schools, while the area team comprises players from the northern part of the state.

Knox 6-foot-6 wide-body Brandon Webb scored a game-high 25 points to lead the area team, while Penn's Andrew White scored 19 to lead the metro team.

Three local players - Tippecanoe Valley's Brandon Eaton, Triton's Brandon Zeider and Warsaw's Chris Wiggins - came off the bench to play for the area team. Wiggins scored 13. Eaton had eight points, six rebounds and three assists. Zeider had seven points, five assists and five rebounds.

The game is a free-for-all where offensive free-wheeling is encouraged and defense is a dirty word. Refs look the other way on traveling calls, blowing their whistles only on blatant fouls. The two teams combined for 192 field goal attempts in two 20-minute halves. The area team hit 47 of 98 shots (48 percent), while the metro team hit 40 of 94 shots (43 percent).

The area players took the early lead and went to the locker rooms at halftime up 64-56. They started the second half on a 10-2 run to go up 74-58 and cruised the rest of the way.

Other top scorers for the area team included LaPorte's Steve Drabyn with 23 and Bremen's Adam Mark with 14. Northridge 6'7' center Aaron Thomas, headed to Robert Morris College, finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Mishawaka's Jason Ditsch added 14 for the metro team, which had a handful of players finish with 10 or 11 points. South Bend Riley 6'9' center Ronald Dokes, headed to Ball State, finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
