EVANSTON, Ill. - Three area students have been named semifinalists in the 2000 Merit Scholarship competition.
Michael J. Reschly, NorthWood High School, Nappanee; Tricia M. Netzley, Warsaw Community High School; and Natalie J. Wallin, home school.
The three join approximately 16,000 high school seniors from around the United States who will compete for 7,600 Merit Scholarship awards, worth more than $28 million, next spring.
National Merit Scholarship is a privately financed, not-for-profit corporation, and scholarships are underwritten by sponsor organizations and institutions.
Students are chosen based on their 1998 Preliminary SATs or NMS qualifying tests. Fewer than 1 percent of the nation's high school seniors were designated as semifinalists.
