Area Plan Commission Hears Rezoning Request

Posted
The Area Plan Commission heard a rezoning request Wednesday for a piece of land along Ind. 13 south of North Webster.

Attorney Steve Snyder asked for and was approved to turn three parcels of land about a half mile south of Ind. 13 and Armstrong Road from non-conforming agricultural to commercial. The commission approved the request and will recommend the change to the Kosciusko County Commissioners at their Feb. 16 meeting.

The plan commission heard a lengthy discussion on a plat vacation for a piece of land in Cortland Park in Silver Lake.

Jerry and Betty Sipe, through contractor Bob Sutton, asked the commission to allow a piece of 40 x 40 land behind their home to be vacated.

The property, whose owner is undetermined, has no public access.

Sutton said the Sipes believed they owned the land until Sutton attempted to get a permit to build a new porch on the Sipes' property. At that point they found out the land was not owned by the Sipes.

Sutton said the Sipes were aware that by vacating that land and allowing the Sipes to purchase it, a higher rate on the land will be paid because the land is waterfront.

The commission approved the vacation but asked the Area Plan Commission to send letters to residents in Cortland Park to make them aware of the situation.

The commission also moved to have the owners of a commercial property in Sidney appear in front of the Board of Zoning Appeals.
