Lady Vikings Sweep Lakeland BB Tournaments

LAGRANGE – Both the Tippecanoe Valley varsity and junior varsity girls basketball teams swept their two games and claimed tournament titles at the Lakeland Invitational Friday.
The Lady Viking varsity, less than 18 hours removed from the Hall of Fame Classic in New Castle, beat host Lakeland 54-26 in the semifinals and routed West Noble 56-33 in the title game.
The JV won 33-24 over the Lady Lakers, then beat West Noble 32-27 for its title.
Individual statistics were not available as of press time.
3A No. 7 Tippecanoe Valley (13-3) travels to Northfield for a Three Rivers Conference game Thursday.

Vikings 5th At Caston
FULTON – Tippecanoe Valley finished fifth in the Caston Invitational boys basketball tournament with a 44-36 win over Knox Friday night. It was the second time the Vikings beat Knox this season; Valley won a 66-60 home game Dec. 2.
The rematch was tight throughout, with Knox holding a two-point lead after three quarters. The Vikings outscored Knox 17-7 in the final period.
Keith Wright and Alec Craig had 13 points each for Valley, and Jarod Duzenbery added nine points for the Vikings.
Valley advanced to the fifth-place game with a 46-22 win over host Caston. Wright had 15 in that game, with Craig scoring 12 points and Duzenbery netting 10. Duzenbery led the Vikings in rebounding, pulling down six boards in each game.
Now 5-5 for the season, Valley resumes Three Rivers Conference play Friday when it hosts Northfield.

Lady Cougars Take Third
WINONA LAKE – Hope Fancil scored 25 points to lead Lakeland Christian to a 41-24 girls basketball win over Clinton Christian in the third-place game of LCA’s Cougar Classic at Grace College’s Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center Friday.
The Lady Cougars (7-7) host 1A No. 3 Argos (13-0) Saturday night.

LCA Finishes 4th In Cougar Classic
WINONA LAKE – Lakeland Christian Academy fell in a 22-6 hole after the first quarter, and wound up with a 74-50 boys basketball loss to Calumet Christian in the third-place game of the Cougar Classic at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center on the Grace College campus Friday.
Josh McDaniel, who was named to the all-tournament team, paced the Cougars with a game-high 23 points.
Now 4-5 on the season, Lakeland Christian will host Elkhart Christian Friday night.

Lady Squires Fall In Wabash County Title Tilt
WABASH – Manchester fell behind by seven points in the first quarter and never recovered in a 53-39 girls basketball loss to Wabash in the championship game of the Wabash County Tournament at Southwood High School Friday.
Cierra Carter had 12 points to lead the Lady Squires. She also tied Erika Kendall for team-high honors with eight rebounds. Ellie Milam and Kerigan Hatfield added eight points each for Manchester.
“Our girls played their hearts out tonight for 32 minutes,” said Manchester head coach Jacob Everett. “I could not be prouder of their performance. We will get some much-needed rest going into games next week.”
The Lady Squires (9-6) will host Central Noble in a non-conference game Tuesday.

Squires Fall In County Third-Place Game
WABASH – Manchester had 12 points from David McAtee and 11 from Mason Hamby in its 53-40 boys basketball loss to Northfield at the Wabash County Tournament held at Southwood High School Friday.
The Squires (1-8) travel to North Miami for a Three Rivers Conference game Friday.

Warsaw’s Hatch Wins Title
MISHAWAKA – Kyle Hatch of Warsaw took home his third Al Smith Invitational wrestling championship Friday at Mishawaka High School, winning at 152 pounds in the 32-team tournament.
Hatch advanced to the semifinals Thursday, and started off the day with a win by pin over Center Grove's Logan Coyle.
In the finals, Hatch faced off against third-ranked Kenny Kern of Jimtown. Hatch controlled the pace and scoring for most of the match to earn a 6-4 decision.
The Tiger team will wrestle at Goshen in a Northern Lakes Conference match on Jan. 12.
