DUNLAP — After two rounds of the Northern Lakes Conference Championships at Concord, three local products remain alive in the winner’s bracket.
The NLC Championships semifinals were held Thursday, with Warsaw’s Keaton Joyner defeating Plymouth’s Luke Bumpus at No. 3 singles and Warsaw’s No. 2 doubles team of Connor Singrey and A.J. Jansen downing Elkhart Memorial’s Chirag Patel and Elliott Denton.
The Warsaw competitors move on to Saturday’s championship round, where Joyner will take on Northridge’s Josh Garfein and the No. 2 doubles team squares off against Concord’s Matt Kotva and T Cunningham. Battling for third place Saturday for Warsaw in the consolation bracket will be Kyle Wettschurack (No. 1 singles), Evan Miller (No. 2 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of A.J. Herendeen and Sam Rice.
Thursday in Bremen Each of Triton’s boys tennis players advanced out of the opening round of the Northern State Conference Championships Thursday in Bremen. While Pete Kaufman had a first-round bye at No. 2 singles, his teammates all played and won. Among the advancing players were Jeff Ross and Lucas Shafer and No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, while the No. 1 doubles team of Josh Shafer and Austin Kanarr were victorious, as were the No. 2 tandem of Wil Rettinger and Jackson Downing. GIRLS SOCCER Thursday in North Manchester Scoring two goals in the opening six minutes, the Warsaw girls soccer team went on to get a 4-0 victory at Manchester Thursday night. Hannah Cutshall got things rolling with a goal in the third minute, followed by one by Kelly Wildman in the sixth. Later, Brooklyn Jackson and Claire Snodgrass netted goals in the 59th and 71st minutes, respectively. In all, Warsaw outshot Manchester 37-0, with Manchester goalkeeper Emily Neild posting 30 saves.
